Why Web Design Is Important To Rank Well In Search Engines

by Alex McMillan Boyle

When you hire a web designer to build you a website, quite often the main focus is spent on aesthetically pleasing graphics and a professional look. However, a professional look is pointless if your website doesn't function well of properly and doesn't attract any traffic.

Your website should be a 24/7 working salesperson for your company, bringing in new business round the clock so that every time you check your inbox you should have new enquiries from leads sitting in there that are waiting to be turned into sales.

The purpose of each website will of course vary depending on what your business is. A website can be used to collect contact details of potential customers for contact at a later date, it could be used to generate enquiries for you to answer with a quote, or it can sell your products automatically, either way, the point is your website must have a purpose!!

Once you have established your sites purpose you will want to add Calls to Action on each page, so each visitor has an action to take once they have read your content. Content needs to take to format of.. identifying the prospects problem, issue or need explain how you can solve, fix or supply it.. provide an easy system for the prospect to take action.

Once your site has all of these features in place, you should start looking to generate some traffic to it. This is where many web designers falter as it is not strictly their job to get visitors to your site, so many of them dont concern themselves with how to do it, but there are some functionalities that will seriously hinder your progress when trying to rank well in search engines. Features such as flash animations and the use of content management systems (CMS) pose this problem.

The best course of action is to seek advice from an experienced SEO company before you commission your web design so as to avoid having to completely re-write your content and re-design your site in order to get it ranking well in search engines.
